Internship Spotlight: Danilo Piljevic

This summer, I will be interning for Cloudberry Connections to help document and communicate Indigenous Knowledge and perspectives as it relates to co-management initiatives. Working mostly through examples of co-management between Indigenous communities and the Canadian government, Cloudberry seeks to provide freely available resources on Indigenous self-governance, knowledge co-production, and co-management in a North American context. To assist the development of these resources, my work will involve conducting research and literature reviews on co-management in Canada, and how the connections between Indigenous peoples and wildlife are currently represented in conservation media and documentaries.

I will also be responsible for producing an audio/video resource highlighting co-management in Atlantic Canada by investigating a contemporary marine issue affecting Atlantic communities. Although I still have much to learn on this vast topic, the exposure to key concepts of Indigenous environmental stewardship and Indigenous fisheries governance through Marine Affairs courses such as Fisheries Management and Politics of the Sea provided me a great starting point and spurred my interest in this field.
